It seems like all the fine scientific minds are employed either by big business, say, creating drugs with longer and longer lists of side effects, or by governments, developing new weapons of mass control and destruction.
My question is—now that we have crowd sourcing on sites like indiegogo and others, why don’t we start supporting scientists working on discoveries that actually benefit humanity? Of course, some would argue that we just can’t have scientific research being done without government oversight. What if some new technology fell into the wrong hands? Well, I say it’s already in the wrong hands, so we need to take it back.
I took a course in copyright law and you would be astounded to know the number of patents bought by big business for a pittance from poor inventors---not to be used, but to insure that these helpful inventions and alternative energy sources never see the light of day or threaten the profits of existing destructive businesses. If scientists were funded by we, the people—with us deciding what projects were worthy---they wouldn’t need to sell the product of their work to survive to research another day.
Do you think it’s a good idea to crowd-source science?
